Oubliette - (noun, french) a little place of forgetting. A small, windowless room where someone is locked away, forgotten, left to go mad.
This is my personal place to rant and rave like the lunatic I am, my oubliette. It's dark, quiet, and I come here to forget about things. Or maybe to remember them. After all, where does insanity end, and insight begin?

microfuzzy has a name at last
Hooray! The Kitten (a.k.a. Little One, Fuzzy, or MicroFuzzy) has a name. Say hello to Freya.
\
Freya takes the news in stride.

McCullough has decided to play FuzzyMomma.
Ready. Set. Fight!

She really has no idea she only weighs 2 pounds.

Freya still confuses bath time with play time.
Freya has been to the vet for a second visit. She's healthy and was given the green-light to freely interact with the other cats.
Heaven help the adult cats.

friday catblogging
Today's installment of kitten pictures.

I am so glad Little Fuzzy now sleeping through the night. And weaned. That makes things so much easier. She's a little terror now, chasing Noah and McCullough through the upstairs rooms. She loves the fact they run from her.
Still no news on her name, or where her permanent home will be. I haven't decided what to call her if she stays here, so she's Little Fuzzy for now.

new addition to the oubliette
Once again, The Oubliette becomes home for abandoned cats. Or a six week old kitten in this particular case. The BIL found her under the delivery truck at his work this morning, hiding between the rear tires. Of course, he couldn't let her get hurt, and there was no momma cat to be seen.
So, here she is. She's in quarantine until she gets to the vet and checked out. In the mean time, she's had a bath, has her own cardboard box playpen, and is getting fed kitten formula. Her momma hadn't weaned her yet, she has no idea what to do with the wet food or water in a dish. Good thing I have experience fostering very young kittens - bottle feeding is nothing new to me.
Stay tuned for more photos. And the announcement of what her name will be. For now she's "Fuzzball", "Fuzzy", or "Hairball".

In honor of her debut as a comic character, I present a photo of Callie.

I don't have any photos of Callie playing in the water bowl right now. I swear she'd go swimming in it if it was bit bigger.

i'm baaaack...
*Brushes cobwebs off site*
Uh, yeah. Not dead, although I was wishing for death at times. Salmonella peanut butter will do that to ya. And a broken foot, and a flare of the Crohn's, and pneumonia. At least I caught up on some quality sleep.
Anyway, I'm back in the saddle now, and have a new addition to The Oubliette - a webcomic. Starting Friday, June 1, I will be posting a comic on a M-W-F schedule. It will feature the lives of the cats of the Oubliette, and probably some occasional randomness. This is a project I've been kicking around for a year now and started work on it a few weeks ago. I hope you enjoy it. I'd be lying if I said that I didn't care if anyone liked it or not (any artist who says that is a friggin' liar), but I will post for 2 months before deciding whether or not to continue subjecting the interweb to my Photoshop skills.
Let's see, other news... Started writing a novel based on my experience in EMS. Still outlining the book. Excerpts may end up on here eventually.
Does waiting for my Amazon.com order count as news? No? Oh, well. It's getting covered anyway.
Hopefully my order will arrive Friday afternoon. It left the USPS center in Atlanta at something like 0030 Thursday, and it shouldn't take that long to arrive here in Huntsville. Yes, I am impatient. I need my Dresden Files novels. I bought the first one last week and read it in about 24 hours. So now I have to have the rest of the paperbacks.
I did wonder why the TV series sounded so familiar when it ran on Sci-Fi Channel over the winter. Amazon.com had been trying to get me to buy them for almost 2 years before the series started. I don't remember exactly what purchase made Amazon's computers decide I'd like the books, but I guess I should pay more attention to the suggestions. Now to see how long I can draw out reading 7 books. Probably about 14 days.
Oh, yeah. Whole lot goin' on around here.

incentives are bad, m'kay?
Personally, I always read a lot when I was in school and saw this as a great way of getting free pizza for reading like I normaly would. Lots of free pizza. I thought it was a great scam.

ding-dong, the bastard's dead
Now, since I went into early retirement (which sounds better than f***ing disability), I've managed to avoid a lot of news. I don't patrol the news sites like I did a couple of years ago when I didn't have a lot to do on some days.
There have been recent exceptions when I can't hide from the news. The Huntsville School Bus Crash is one instance. Trust me, the city went completely batshit, and for once I was glad I'm not on the Rescue Squad anymore.
Today is another day when I couldn't avoid news. When I went outside to feed the birds and collect my paper, The Huntsville Times proclaimed in 2 inch tall letters "Saddam hanged". Woo-hoo! Time to break out the wine and celebrate.

not dead yet
So, on Halloween I came down with a really bad GI infection. I'm finally on the mend. Yes, unfortunately, you read that right; it's taken nearly a month to start getting better. So, after 1 trip to ER Lite, 2 trips to my GI, 1 abdominal X-ray, 1 CT scan, a dozen or so vials of blood drawn, a fever up to 103 F, a round of prednisone, 2 different antibiotics, heavy-duty pain meds, and a lot of naps, I'm finally on the rebound. On the up side, I've managed to do a lot of quality TV watching, and Maleficent is my new best friend and nap buddy.
In other news, I turned 30 earlier this month. And that sums up my month. Oh yeah, non-stop fun here.

the oubliette turns two
As of yesterday, The Oubliette has been up and running with semi-regular postings for the past two years. 657 posts over the past 2 years. Not too bad, considering the recent dry spell in posting.
*raises cup of Dr. Pepper* Here's to another 2 years. Cheers!

rules for eep
I do not have fingers and the water dish is not a finger-bowl. I don't need to dip my paws in it.
Staring at the water will not make it burble more.
I will not throw up in the water dish, even though I have seen Mommy throw up in the big water dish. She never drinks out of it and I have to drink out of mine.
That scratching post never did anything to me. It does not deserve its fate.
No matter how hard I try, I can't bury the other cats' wet food.
- Nor can I bury anything else on the floor.
I am not The Destroyer of Worlds, therefore I should stop attacking the other cats.

carnival of the cats #132
Wow, it's been a long time since I typed something like this:
This week's edition of the Carnival of the Cats is up over at Pet's Garden. Go forth and look at all the kitties.
