Oubliette - (noun, french) a little place of forgetting. A small, windowless room where someone is locked away, forgotten, left to go mad.
This is my personal place to rant and rave like the lunatic I am, my oubliette. It's dark, quiet, and I come here to forget about things. Or maybe to remember them. After all, where does insanity end, and insight begin?

movie spiders
I'm sitting here watching Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, and after having watched the Lord of the Rings Trilogy many, many, times, I started to wonder, which is the scarier film spider? The poll is for as depicted on screen, not as you imagined. If your imagination differs from what was portrayed on screen, share your thoughts in the comments. So, without further ado, here is the first ever poll on The Oubliette.

Because of the target market -- youngsters -- a lot of the scary parts of the Harry Potter movies have to be toned down a bit. Note the werewolf in the 3rd movie. He looks more dog-like than wolf-like (although plenty effective). Aragog himself was not scary at all. He was wise and slow. It was the attack of the other spiders that created the tension. Shelob, on the other hand, was depicted as malevolent even before she was shown. Her lair was filled with captured creatures (was there a penguin among them?) But the target audience was older, and so the imagineers could create a harsher monster, I think.
